There are a number of good reasons why you might be looking for large wall clocks. Maybe your eye sight is no longer as good as it used to be. Maybe you have a big room, hall or office that means you may be a long way form the clock and have trouble seeing it. Or maybe you just like the ides of a stand out wall clock that is a bit bigger than usual!
Extra large wall clocks have started coming back into fashion after many years of being considered a bit of a relic left over from the 70s and 80s. Many retro clocks were really big, oversized wall clocks that would look a bit weird in modern homes…but luckily modern large wall clocks have adapted and come in fairly sensible colors and styles. Mind you, if you like retro clocks then you can still find plenty of genuine and replica retro clocks on Ebay these days.
If you are like most people then your wall clocks are probably normal analogue style ones. But have you thought about getting some digital wall clocks instead? Digital clocks are a lot faster and easier to read than old clocks are, and might even add a fresh modern touch to your home. One really cool application for a digital wall clock is in a home theatre or entertainment room, with a back lit or led clock. This will display the time in glowing figures, and looks really striking. Remember that if you are buying a new clock for the entertainment room (or a study) a digital wall clock has the advantage of being totally silent – all analogue clocks have a tic that might annoy you here.
The other big advantage that digital wall clocks have over other clocks is that the digits showing the time are a lot bigger than the numbers and hands of a normal clock. So it will be easier to see the numbers on a medium sized digital clock from across the room, than on some analogue large wall clocks from the same distance.
Despite this you may still prefer the charm of a classic timepiece. This is fine of course, and you can still go a long way towards making it easier to use a normal clock. When you are shopping, search for large wall clocks that have oversized, or bold numerals and thick hour and minute hands. And don’t worry, a clock like this should not look ugly and out of place. In fact you will probably find your visitors commenting on how nice and easy your clock is to read!
