Its nice having large, easy to read kitchen clocks. There is something refined and complete about a kitchen that is neat and clean, and is watched over by a stylish wall clock. It looks good, and it goes without saying that a clock in the kitchen is really useful to have. Useful not only because you don’t want to burn your cakes and overcook the eggs, but because we tend to spend a lot of our in-between times in the kitchen: A few minutes of cleaning up here, making a cup of coffee there…so it can be really handy to keep track of time. Whether its so you don’t miss Dancing with the Stars, or miss the kids coming home from school, its always good to be on track!
So you want a new clock. What should you get? There are heaps of different sorts out there, form old farm house kitchen clocks to new led models, so here are a few things to think about.
First up, have you considered a digital wall clock to put in the kitchen? Most wall clocks in homes are still the normal analogue type, and while this is fine of course, there are a few good things about a digital clock. They are quicker to read for most people, and this includes kids of course. So they’re more likely to be used, which means you and your family may find it easier to stay on track. Further to this, it is a lot easier to time things (like the eggs we mentioned) when you are using a digital readout, especially if it has the seconds displayed. The other thing about digital kitchen clocks is that they can be a lot more compact if you want them to be, so they can be easier to mount.
Having said all this about digital kitchen clocks, if you like classic analogue clocks then don’t worry. You still have plenty of choices if you want an easy to read wall clock or kitchen clock. There are a number of companies that specialize in extra large clocks or at least clocks with extra large numbers so that you don’t have to squint or struggle to read them from across the room. If this is more what you are after, Amazon and many Ebay stores sell lots of classic style large wall clocks that won’t strain anyones eyes.
When it comes to buying, do you just want something cheap, quick, and utilitarian? Head on down to the Home Depot or Walmart. There’s nothing shameful about being on a tight budget.
Alternatively maybe you could spend an hour on Ebay, checking out some new or pre-loved wall clocks and kitchen clocks. If you are into antiques then a beautiful old antique clock may be the one for your kitchen, or maybe you can find a funky retro wall clock from the American diner era! With big online stores like Amazon and similar it is amazing what you can find sometimes.
If you love great design and like to surround yourself with beautiful and high quality objects, then you might like one of the line up of Karlsson clocks. Karlsson are a Dutch company who make really cool minimalist, classic and funny contemporary novelty clocks that are a delight to have in any room of the house.
Don’t forget to get some good hanging hardware when you order your new toy though…the last thing you want is for the new kitchen clock to come crashing down in the middle of the night!
